What is SoGEA?
SoGEA delivers broadband without a traditional phone line. Here is what it is, and why it matters as the old network is switched off.
SoGEA in one sentence
SoGEA stands for Single Order Generic Ethernet Access. It provides a broadband connection on a single line, without the underlying analogue telephone service that older broadband was bundled with.
Why it exists
The traditional phone network is being retired, with the old analogue service switched off across the UK. Historically, broadband was sold on top of a phone line you had to pay for even if you never used it for calls.
SoGEA removes that redundant line rental. You get the broadband on its own, which is simpler and often more cost-effective, and calls move to internet-based voice services instead.
Is SoGEA right for your business?
SoGEA is a sensible, modern choice for many sites that do not need a dedicated leased line but want a clean, single-line broadband service. It is a natural replacement for older broadband products as the switch-off continues.
If your business needs guaranteed, symmetric speeds or the strongest resilience, a leased line may still be the better fit. Check availability at your postcode and we will show you what is serviceable and help you choose.
